The Practices and Beliefs of Islam Essay -- Islam Religion Islamic Ess
The Practices and Beliefs of Islam Islam is a religion that has existed for millions of years. The followers believed that there is one God and Muhammad is his messenger. Muhammad was deeply troubled by the idols worship of Arabs and the moral ills of society. When he was about 40, he was meditating and heard a voice. According to Muslim the belief the voice was that of the angel Gabriel it said, 'Proclaim.' When Muhammad asked what should I proclaim the voice responded with proclaim in the name of God. Muhammad was a young man born in Mecca about the year 570. Orphaned at an early age, Muhammad was cared for by his uncle. In his youth he worked as a shepherd among the Bedouins. Later he led caravans across the desert for merchants. When he was 25, Muhammad married Khadija. It was ...

A Formalist Approach on A Supermarket in California by Allen Ginsberg Essay
Allen Ginsberg is considered to be one of the most influential poet of all time. He is regarded one of the most influential personalities of the beat generation during the 1950ââ¬â¢s and 1960ââ¬â¢s. His works became known for assaulting the prevalent conformity and materialism in the United States during his time. One of his best known work is the poem ââ¬Å"A Supermarket in California. â⬠It would be very interesting to approach a work of Ginsberg according to formalist standards. A formalist approach the work of Ginsberg would only reveal to us that he deliberately breaks-off from the conventions set by formalism. According to the criterion of formalism, an art work should only be judged according to the set conventions of its form. Poetry under formalism could also be considered as traditional poetry. In poetry, formalism would be more concerned with the form, rhyme scheme, and meter. Ginsbergââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"A Supermarket in Californiaâ⬠violates many formalist standards. It would be important to note that the poem is not metered and there is no apparent end rhymes. The poem is actually written in long lines following the free-verse form. Free-verse is generally considered as an open genre of poetry wherein structure, rhyme, and meter are not prioritized (Lawlor 208). Reading orally would reveal to us that the poem is intended to be read. The poem takes on a poetic yet conversational tone. However, an interesting aspect about free-verse is that there is still some sense of control, something that holds the poem together, namely the metaphor. In this particular aspect of the poem, some sense of standard is found, therefore quasi-formalist. Ginsberg had used the supermarket as a metaphor for the society, wherein people are just produce ââ¬Å"aisles full of husbands / wives in the avocados / babies in the tomatoes. â⬠Ginsberg had portrayed Walt Whitman and Garcia Lorca as shoppers in ââ¬Å"the neon fruit supermarket. It should be noted that Whitman and Lorca are regarded as two of the greatest poets in the history of literature. The metaphor is suggesting that the society is abundant with people whom poets could pick as an inspiration of their works. Another important aspect to be considered is that Allen Ginsberg is heavily associated with the beat generation, a group of writers dedicated to subvert the standards set by formalists (Lawlor 340). Without a doubt, Ginsbergââ¬â¢s work on ââ¬Å"A Supermarket in Californiaâ⬠would not pass the standards of formalist poetry. However, we must set Ginsbergââ¬â¢s poem within its context. The audience Ginsberg had was not entertained by formalist poetry. That is why he had written the poem in a simple and conversational manner. This is one of most admirable aspects of Allen Ginsbergââ¬â¢s poetry. After all, it all boils down to priority. A poet should decide which is more important, the message of the poem or the form?

Contract Law and Music Copyright Essay - 1683 Words
COURSEWORK FOR CONTRACT LAW (MUSIC*) *On what basis does the inclusion of samples of a recording made by *Pink Floyd constitute an infringement of copyright? In civil law regarding copyright, there are two types of infringement; primary and secondary. Primary is concerned with the unauthorised use of copyrighted works and secondary would involve the dealing or making commercial use of such infringing copies. In the music industry, an infringement of copyright often consists of an existing piece of music being used by an artist without permission from the person or company who own the rights to the original music or recorded sound. This is exactly what has happened with Alexei Duff. He has used two samples from two Pink Floyd tracksâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Alexie Duff could argue that the sample does not play a substantial part in the piece however he still sampled a sound recording without acquiring permission from the copyright owners. If legal action was to be carried ou t and the judge decided against Alexie Duff, overall it would stand that the samples used were taken from original sound recordings by Pink Floyd so therefore an infringement of the sound recording copyright would have occurred. If Alexie Duff was to re-create the drum beat rather than use the existing recorded sound then this would still be sampling though it would only be an infringement of the musical copyright. In spite of this, Pink Floydââ¬â¢s record label may have less of a case in court as the sample was so short. However this is not the case. An example of where a record company has decided to take legal action against an artist for the use of sampling is the case of Hyperion Records Limited v. Warner Music (UK) Limited. A band called ââ¬Å"The Belovedâ⬠used an eight second sample of a song called ââ¬Å"O Euchariâ⬠. The sound was recorded by a singer named Emily Van Evera. Hyperion Records owned the rights to the sound recording and decided to sue. At the p reliminary hearing, the judge decided that that the eight seconds of sampled music constituted as a substantial part. In the end, an out of court agreement was made between the two parties. The Great Beer Abandonment America s Young Drinkers
ââ¬Å"The great beer abandonment: Americaââ¬â¢s young drinkers are drinking wine and hard alcohol insteadâ⬠. In recent years, many young adultsââ¬â¢ ages 18-29 years old are not drinking as much beer as the same age group twenty years ago. In 1992 over seventy percent of this age said that beer was their beverage of choice. That number has now drop to forty percent. The percentage of hard alcohol preference has risen from thirteen percent to thirty percent. While wine preference has also increased from fifteen percent to twenty three percent. Young adult are not the only one whose preference has changed. The United States, has been drinking less and less beer for the past decade. Nationwide, beer consumption fell by nearly 9 percent between 2002 and 2012. Majority of decline is due to the preference of young drinker. People ages 30-49 only decline about three percent, while people ages 50 plus have remain the same. It is odd to see a decline in beer with the em ergence of craft beer. For years it has gaining market share but many believe that it has hit its peak. While we re not there yet, we re definitely approaching bubble territory, said Spiros Malandrakis, Alcoholic Drinks Analyst at Euromonitor International. What could be the reason for the decline? Best System for Disaster Relief Free Essays
When a crisis like a natural disaster occurs, light is shone on the imperfections of collects ability to come together and act. In recent years there have been plenty of disasters to prove that the systems In place to deal with these crises are not effective and are in dire need of a new approach. The victims of these disasters are often made to suffer more than is necessary because of the ineffective plans in place to deal with what ensues after. We will write a custom essay sample on Best System for Disaster Relief or any similar topic only for you Order Now The lack of coordination and planning that the agencies in charge of relief efforts show often cause the victims more pain, suffering and even death than the disaster itself. When it comes to relief efforts, a socialist system is often suggested as being the best for responding to the needs of the people who are victims of these disasters. The reason behind this Is because the basic Idea off socialist system is a system in which the people come together for the good of the whole, not just the one. When a natural disaster like a hurricane or an earthquake occur, criticism of how the situation could have been handled better always comes up, and the suggestion that the best approach for effective relief efforts is that of socialist system. When the devastating earthquake struck Haiti In January 2010, reports of the, lack of Halted governmentââ¬â¢s response flooded the media, There were rescue workers from around the globe attempting to save those who were still burled under rubble, while the Haitian government remained unseen and idle with no plan and no idea where to even begin with their efforts. Before this devastating earthquake occurred, Waitââ¬â¢s infrastructure was practically non-existence. The little resources they did have were mostly lost in the rubble, not only actual supplies, but essential members of their police force and trained medical staff were lost too. They have nothing here, no Infrastructure, no support,â⬠says Francisco Morale, a Spanish firefighter working at the recovery scene of a hotel. ââ¬Å"They are too poor. â⬠But many say the earthquake has been made more tragic by government unpreserved. ââ¬Å"Geologists knew we were sitting on top of a fault, and what did the government do? Nothing,â⬠says Freedmen Isms, a consultant in Port-AU-Prince who says that he tried to rally friends and relatives to distribute water in the first two days when no relief efforts were anywhere to be seen. ââ¬Å"You are on your own here,â⬠says Ronald, a car legman who does not want to give his last name but Is critical of the current government. ââ¬Å"Every year there is a disaster in Haiti, and we have no rescue teams or plan. â⬠(Lana, 2010 January 17) Haiti Earthquake: Angry crowds bemoan lack of government response. Retrieved from: http://www. Compositor. Com. The ability of a socialist system to be objective and to take into account the needs of all makes it the ideal system to handle devastation left in the wake of natural disasters. There is no discrimination In terms of who gets what flirts because the focus of socialism is the whole, not the Individual. Take for example what happened In New York after Hurricane Sandy, social status and class were taken into account, ââ¬Å"Like everything else, the allocation of resources has been directed to the top. The city billionaire mayor and the utility giants made sure electricity was quickly restored to the New York Stock Exchange so Wall Street investors could continue reaping their profits. The lights were also turned on in the luxury high-rise apartments In lower Manhattan. Staten Island, one woman told the news media, ââ¬Å"We are not getting help because we are a working class neighborhood and itââ¬â¢s a kind offend for yourself thing. In public housing projects?without water and electricity for lights or elevators?residents have been forced to get water from open fire hydrants and lug containers up multiple flights of stairs in the dark. One resident?a transit worker who had spent the previous 24 hours helping to restore the train system?told the WOWS, ââ¬Å"Different classes get taken care of differently. â⬠Opposing any significant allocation of resources needed to address this crisis, the politicians and the corporate-controlled news media have stressed the need for ââ¬Å"self-reliance,â⬠telling victims the government Anton do everything and recovery will take a very long time. Moreover, they say, the government is already facing a fiscal crisis that will limit the response. The Socialist Equality Party rejects these claims. This disaster demands a massive, socially coordinated response. The countryââ¬â¢s full technological, financial and human resources must be marshaled to provide immediate relief to those in need and rebuild homes, schools, businesses, and transit and infrastructure systems in the affected areas. â⬠(White, 2012, November 2) A Socialist Policy for the Victims of Hurricane Sandy. Retrieved from: www. Wows. Org. If relief is distributed by the U. S. Government in the way that it was for Hurricane Sandy for any other disaster that may occur in the future, I fear to think of what that means for humanity. Yes, there are flaws in a socialist system, but could we not stand to derive some of its better attributes and apply them to our way of handling situations like the earthquake in Haiti, Hurricane Sandy or Hurricane Strain? In situations where our greatest responsibility to one another is to act compassionately to our fellow man, is it too such to think that we are capable of shying away from our natural tendency to be selfish and Just push trivial things aside to help one another in times of great need? Things like the rise in cost to heat our homes in winter would not be a topic of discussion in a socialistic society, but in the United States, where we have a capitalistic system in place, the laws of supply and demand play a relevant role in just about everything that we need. The amount the supplier of the crude oil has to pay to purchase their product factors in to the amount they charge the consumer. Along with that, you must also factor in the demand for their product, the increased demand allows for the increase in price because in supplying the consumers with their product, they are depleting their stockpile and must replenish it in order to be able to continue to keep up with that demand. Then there is the matter of the company actually turning a profit, so the already increased price because of the increased demand and possible shortage in the product, goes up even more so. Itââ¬â¢s just an infinite loop that goes on year in and year out. It is understandable that impasses who provide us with heat for our homes want to make a profit, but think of the many that cannot afford it and have bear the harsh cold of winter without heat. Why donââ¬â¢t they apply for the government assistance program? What happens when they do apply and they are told that they do not qualify or meet the requirements? Although there is a program in place to assist those who cannot afford the increase in price that occurs with the increase in demand for heat, there are still those who have to endure the cold and the rejection of a government who regulations that do not necessarily apply to all those who need help. The Eolian Harp and The Vanity of Human Wishes free essay sample
A paper which compares and analyzes two poems by Samuel Taylor Coleridge and Samuel Johnson. In English literature, Samuel Taylor Coleridge and Samuel Johnson are two important writers known for their brilliance in composing poetry. The two poets have differing styles because of the influence and events that occurred during the time a literary work was being done, and these differences in themes and literary style are discussed in this paper. The specific literary works that serve as a comparison for both writers are The Vanity of Human Wishes (Johnson) and The Eolian Harp (Coleridge). Lastly, the theme used in Vanity is about dangers that greed can bring to people and is delivered in a melancholic tone. Eolian is the opposite of Vanity; the former discusses nature and the poets sensibility to the joys that nature or any inanimate objects bring to an individual. The poem shows appreciation for nature and is delivered in a happy tone. We will write a custom essay sample on The Eolian Harp and The Vanity of Human Wishes or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Another factor that may be considered to the different tones of both poems is the mood the poets are in when they wrote the literary work. Johnson was in a state of periodic depression when Vanity was composed; Coleridge was in a joyous mood when he wrote Eolian because he was about to get married at that time. Hence, these varying moods contribute to the tone of the poems they had composed.
